You are on His mind!

129

Several days ago as I was reading Psalms 33, I got hold of the verses 13-15 which say, “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.” It reminded me of my childhood memory.

As children, we were taught that God sees everything we do so be careful of the things we do. In Our Sunday school time, a song was taught to us which says

O be careful little eyes what you see

O be careful little eyes what you see

There’s a Father up above

And He’s looking down in love

So, be careful little eyes what you see.

As a child, my picture about God was something like this; He is always checking on me: what I do, what I see, where I go, what I speak, what I hear. If I do something wrong, He will be angry with me and punish me. So I was always conscious about what I do. As a child my interpretation of the song made me to think of God as someone who likes punishing people for their wrong doings.

But as I read these verses, they opened up a completely new meaning and understanding for me. There was a time I remember saying to myself that nobody cares for me, nobody sees my problems, nobody notices my hard work or my sincerity or nobody sees my struggles or my tears. In the midst of all these demanding aspects of my life, it was something amazing for me to know that God sees me. He sees my struggles, my tears, my fears, the uncertainty I face, He knows each thought that comes across my mind. He considers everything I do. He is concerned about every aspect of my life. He can see the smile on my face; He also sees each tear that falls; He is delighted to see me happy and He is near to me when I am broken. His eyes are on me and His presence is always with me.

He sees when I sit and when I rise; He perceives my thoughts from afar. He discerns my going out and my laying down. He is familiar with all my ways. (Psalm 139)

Have you ever felt unnoticed, unappreciated, abandoned, lonely and unloved? Have you ever doubted if anyone really cares for you, considers you, or notices your hard work, or applauds you? If so, just wrap yourselves with the beautiful truth of the Word and you can be confident that God sees you.He is near you and He is in control of your life in the midst of whatever challenges life presents.

He is behind the wheel!

Going for a long drive with my family excites me a lot. But at the same time, I really get panicked during the travel. I have a travel phobia or whatever you call it but I can’t be at peace on a high way. I keep on telling (yelling at) my husband to watch out every car, truck, bike or bus that comes in speed from the opposite side. I sometimes squeeze his shoulder to reduce the speed. Even though he drives the car but in reality I control it. This sounds really crazy to me. But my dear husband got so much patience to deal with my “travel phobia” every time he takes me out. He says, “You just relax, I will take you safely, trust me.”

Often times we do the same thing with God. We want to enjoy our life journey but at the same time we are freaked out because of all the difficulties that come rushing from the other sides. All the fear that entangles us on the way. We yell at God, “God! Don’t you see I got financial crisis? Look! My child isn’t feeling well, God! Did you know I have got so much debt to pay, God! Did you see what the medical report says? Do you know my business is ruining, have you noticed? I have not succeeded in my life etc. We keep on telling him about the difficulties that we see as “threatening” to us. We let Him drive our life but we want to have control over it. But God is so patient with us. He knows our fears, our anxieties and our concerns. He loving says to us “Just relax, I will take you safely, trust me.”

Trusting Him simply means just giving your life completely in His hands and letting Him have control over it. There will be difficulties, rough roads, curves, and slopes but He will take you safely throughout the journey. There will be times you may face financial crisis, health issues, family disputes, bad breaks in your work place or business, difficulties in your career, your marriage, job or relationships. But when you know He is in control of every aspects of your life, you can just relax and enjoy the ride. You can be at peace even in the midst of the rough roads. Remember He is behind the wheel and He is in control of your life. So go on and have an adventurous journey!

Fruitful in the drought

135

Those who trust in the Lord and put their hope in Him alone are like a tree which is planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It is not affected when heat comes and it never fails to bear fruit even in the year of drought.

Roots play an important role in the growth of the tree. Their most important job is to get water and nutrients for the tree. They usually live buried down in the ground. The roots send water and nutrients up to the rest of the tree to help it grow bigger and stronger. Roots also help keep the tree in place. Without any roots to tie them to the ground, a big tree might wobble and fall down.

A life which is rooted in the Lord and His promises has nothing to fear or worry about. It will neither be shaken by any storm. When we are deeply rooted in the knowledge of God and trust Him completely with our lives we will be flourishing even in the midst of difficulties. We will have His peace, joy and grace continually supplied to us. We will also be a source of blessing to others.

Our God strengthens us in the midst of our problems when we completely rely on Him for our source of strength. His river of living water-His Spirit will continually strengthen us inwardly no matter what the outside circumstances are. We will not be withered by the outer heat or a drought but have a fruitful life. Because our only confidence will be in Him and Him alone.  His Spirit will provide us with all the necessary nutrients which are needed for our sustenance and growth. Let’s have our faith rooted in Him and He will help us live a fruitful life even in the midst of our difficulties. Let our lives always be planted at His river of living water.

Mrs. Proverbs 31

130

In a time when most women were not taken very seriously apart from childbearing, the writer of this proverb dared to present a picture of woman as a glorious, vibrant and intelligent creation of God. It’s amazing to find that the Bible’s view of a ‘excellent wife’ is a women who lives in the present, who is down-to-earth and does not depose the ordinary processes of living. Yet she is wise to the ways of the world because she lives by the wisdom of God.

She is a wife of noble character whose worth is more than rubies. The heart of her husband trusts in her. Why? because she does him good and not evil all days of her life.  A submissive, supportive and trusting wife is a blessing to a man.

She raises up in the morning to provide food for her family. She portions for her servant girls. She ensures that those under her care receives what they need – food, clothing and protection. She is generous too. She extends her hand to help the poor and needy.

She is not only Mrs. superwoman in the home but she also has an interesting life of her own. She has the means and authority to buy land and plant a vineyard. She has her own creative industry which has many activities to fill her day. There is no end to her capacity. She is wise, enterprising, imaginative and confident.

What’s makes her exceptional? How can she fulfills many roles? How did she come to be like this? Her secret is that she draws her strength from the Lord. She has invested her faith in the principles of God’s word and found them to work. As she consistently applied them in her life, they became like keys unlocking doors, opening out her potentials and widening her experience. It is her attitude to herself, to her husband and to God which has formed her character. A woman who fears God will be fruitful in every good work.

Her reward? her children call her blessed. Her husband praises her. She will be remembered – long after she is gone not as a woman who looked beautiful or cooked tasty food or successfully balanced a budget but a woman who sought the Lord first of all.

God brings all pieces of your life together

134

These days the artist in me is coming alive. I love craft and it’s my most favorite leisure time activity. At present I am having some free days and I decided to have creativity time for myself. A year ago, I got a dried branch of a tree and I had an idea to make some artistic stuff out it (I usually make craft items out of unusable material) I painted it half with green color to make it a showpiece. But then I had no time to complete it and it was left at the corner of my house. Months and months went by and I didn’t have free time to complete it.

Today, I had a beautiful idea of how to make a showpiece out of it. The blueprint was in my mind. I needed to make it come into reality. I tried getting all the needed material for it and I began to complete my unfinished work. I painted it green but this time with a glittering green color. I made little red colored flowers with a satin ribbon and green leaves out of a craft paper to stick on it. I decorated the pot with some painted stones and craft net…and there was my showpiece ready!  I felt it’s beautiful and couldn’t stop myself from admiring it every now and then as i remembered the dried branch I was working on.

While giving it a finishing touch, a thought came in my mind; God also works on our lives in the same way. There are seasons when our lives look just like the dried branch of some tree; insignificant, unusable, unnoticed and illogical. But God has a beautiful plan to make them significant and beautiful. He has the blueprints of our lives in His mind.

You might think that nothing will work out well in your life, you will always be unnoticed, left somewhere in the corner or will be considered worthless. But He works to bring together all pieces of your life to make it beautiful in His time. Your life may not make sense now but trust Him, He is working on it.  It is hard to believe His promise and plans in the midst of your disappointments and frustrations but when He promises, He sure does. And I am convinced of the fact that once your life is made complete and beautiful, He smiles as He delights in His beautiful masterpiece!

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13

Dear Father!

I thank you that you have a beautiful plan for my life. I thank you that you haven’t given up on me. Please help me to trust your promises for my life. Please help me to overcome all refusals and doubts I face. Help me to see my life through your perspective. I submit my life into your hands. Please work on it to make it beautiful and worthy for your glory!

Amen!

Being on the Potter’s wheel

136

“He is the Potter…I am the clay
and molded in His image, He wants me to stay.
Oh, but when I stumble…
When I fall…
When my vessel breaks,
He just picks up those pieces,
He does not throw the clay away”.

Few days ago, I came across this beautiful song written by Terry Gibbs. The lyrics is so real and touching that I couldn’t control my tears. It spoke life to my broken spirit and reminded me of God’s continuous faithfulness in my life which I often tend to take for granted whenever I am overwhelmed by my sorrows. But He is so patient with me and never gives up on me.

I could picture myself as a clay in His hand. He is working on me like the potter works on the clay. He patiently works until I will be perfectly shaped in His image and character. When the moulding process seems painful, uncomfortable and unending to me, I try to come out of it by being resentful, bitter, ungrateful and angry with God. But each time when I see myself being broken, His loving kindness surrounds me. He picks me up and again starts working on me. He is so patient with me. He wants to fashion me till I become unbreakable, useful and worthy vessel in His hands. He wants to shape me into a vessel that is pleasing to Him. That’s something amazing I learnt about God’s nature.

Many times when I felt broken, discouraged and marred in my life, I saw His hands lifting me up again. He began working over again on me so lovingly knowing my weaknesses, my heartaches, and my imperfections. Just like potter turns the wheel and shapes the clay into a useful vessel, so as all the turnings of my life were used in shaping me into a useful vessel by the Master Potter. It’s so wonderful to know that He was watching me throughout the process.

But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him”. Jeremiah 18:4

If you find yourself being on the potter’s wheel, just trust Him completely throughout the process. Believe that He is working out all your imperfections to mold you in His likeness. The process may seem uncomfortable and unending but it will bring you out as a useful, unbreakable and worthy vessel for His glory. Just give yourself fully in His hands and He will never give up on you!
